There aren’t many places you can go to experience fresh, authentic, Sri Lankan cuisine. That’s why Victoria Park Central was so grateful to welcome new restaurant, Uduna, in June 2021! Though they’re still only new, owner Prins has loved sharing his passion for cooking delicious Sri Lankan food with the community.
We spoke to Prins to find out a bit more about him and the food he cooks. We usually ask our food retailers for their seasonal meal recommendations, and Prins gave an answer that we hadn’t heard yet!
“Sri Lanka is a tropical island and has no seasons like we have here in Australia. Therefore, all Sri Lankan foods are suitable and enjoyable throughout the year.” Uduna specialise in rice and curry, with flavours to suit every palate, no matter the season.
If you’ve dined at Uduna before, you’d know how incredible and hearty the food is. So, we had to ask, what makes it soooo good? And Prins was kind enough to let us in on their secret. “We always cook with natural ingredients, which means no artificial taste enhancers are used. Also, all foods are made with love and care.”
When he’s not busy whipping up delicious dishes, you can find Prins visiting Mayumi Sushi. “I love the small sushi he makes!” he said. Prins also likes to spend his time creating beautiful artworks and going for a stroll in his local park.
“We have lots of return customers,” Prins said, when we asked him if he’s got any regulars. “They have trust in our food quality and ingredients. Plus, it’s healthy, so you can have it quite often too.” Okay, that’s our excuse to visit every day!
If he was hosting a dinner party to which anyone could be invited, Prins knew exactly what he would serve, and who he would ask to come along. “I would serve rice and curry, and Koththu. I would invite my best food fans from our Facebook or Instagram page! They show us lots of support.”
Whether Sri Lankan food is your favourite cuisine or you’ve never tried it before, Uduna is the place to go! Prins and his team do all they can to create a delicious dining experience for their customers at an affordable price – without compromising on quality. You’ll be supporting a locally owned and operated business, so make sure you stop by and say hello!
