Kage from Mayumi Sushi had a regular celebrity customer at his store in Sydney!
There is something about Japanese cuisine that makes even the simplest dishes look and taste luxurious. But only when it’s prepared just right. Mayumi Sushi is one place that you’re guaranteed to find delicious Japanese food, and business owner Kage loves putting smile on his customers’ faces.
Some of Kage’s funniest moments at Mayumi Sushi have been the interesting orders they receive. “One of my regular customers from Mandurah ordered 30 pieces of sushi! She finished ten pieces at my store and took 20 pieces back to Mandurah which is a 2-hour round trip!”
In fact, Kage has a few regular customers — some who have been with him since the very beginning! “We have a customer who has been coming every week since my store opening day 8 years ago, ordering a Roll Mix Box. I think he loves my store because he loves the variety and the freshest sushi.”
We had to quiz Kage for some of his food expertise. Firstly, what does he recommend for these warmer months of the year? “Sushi, of course! Because summer is sushi season and everybody thinks so! People want fresh, cool food items for summer.”
Then, we were lucky enough to get some secret tips as to why Mayumi Sushi tastes so good!
“We use special rice called ‘koshihikari’. My staff and I are true Japanese chefs and know the real taste of Japanese food! I always and only use the best and freshest produce. Our products are handmade by me every day with an authentic Japanese style.”
When he’s not busy making customers smile or serving up delicious Japanese food, Kage can be found eating some tasty Korean chicken with a good beer at Chicky Chicky. Outside of the Centre, Kage enjoys getting out in nature. “I love visiting the Swan River because it’s very close and has a nice view. I love to swim and I’m very good at it, but I’d love to try surfing!”
There’s plenty of menu options to choose from at Mayumi Sushi, so we had to ask what Kage would choose if he could only eat one thing for the rest of his life! “I’d choose the Mayumi Sushi Signature Box, because I use the best salmon and only fresh products. It includes a big variety of food so I would have many things to choose from each day.”
And finally, what if Kage were serving three famous people of his choice? “I’d serve my big party platters which would give everyone a taste of all the different types of sushi I make! I would invite Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. Fun fact, Hugh Jackman used to come into my store in Double Bay, Sydney and buy my sushi!”
Well, if it’s good enough for Hugh Jackman, it’s definitely good enough for us! So, whether you’re after a delicious, healthy snack or need catering for an event, make sure you visit Kage and the team at Mayumi Sushi. You’ll be supporting a locally owned and operated business.
